Walled villages
Compact rectangular villages, such as Kat Hing Wai, show up as tight blocks with regular internal lanes. Their walls still define their shape.

Te mapa
Kam Tin lies in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong, in a wide valley within Yuen Long District. Its map looks nothing like the dense city. Low village houses, farmland, fish ponds and small roads spread across the plain, and the hills of Tai Lam and Kai Kung Leng rise to the south and east.
The area is one of the historic homes of the Tang clan, and its walled villages are among the best known in Hong Kong. Kat Hing Wai, with its surrounding wall and iron gates, is the most famous. The Kam Tin River runs through the valley, and Kam Sheung Road station now links the area to the rail network.
A Kam Tin map poster records a side of Hong Kong most visitors never see. Village clusters look like small squares, the river and drainage channels draw soft lines across the plain, and open land fills the rest. It is a spare, rural picture with deep local roots.
Compact rectangular villages, such as Kat Hing Wai, show up as tight blocks with regular internal lanes. Their walls still define their shape.
The channelled river and its drainage network run through the valley. They draw long lines across the flat farmland and ponds.
Kam Sheung Road station and the elevated line through the valley add a modern, straight stroke to the older village landscape.
