Te mapa
Tin Shui Wai is a new town in the northwestern New Territories of Hong Kong, built from the late 1980s on land reclaimed from fishponds and wetlands. From above, its origins are obvious: a compact, planned district of tall residential estates laid out on flat ground, surrounded on several sides by fishponds and the marshes around Deep Bay.
The town is organised around a central drainage channel running north to south, with parks and walkways along its banks. The Light Rail network winds through the estates in loops, stopping at stations spaced every few blocks, while the Tuen Ma Line links the town to Kowloon. Road layouts are curved and generous, very different from older Hong Kong districts.
To the north lies Hong Kong Wetland Park, and beyond it the mudflats of Deep Bay face Shenzhen across the water. A Tin Shui Wai map poster shows a modern town set right against one of the region's most important habitats for migratory birds, planned streets on one side, ponds and marsh on the other.
A long drainage channel runs through the middle of the town, lined with parks and footpaths, forming a strong central axis that divides the estates on either side.
The Light Rail network traces circuits through the town, its curving tracks and frequent stops adding a distinctive looping pattern to the map.
North and west, fishponds and the Wetland Park form a mosaic of rectangular water bodies, an unusual and graphic edge for an urban map.

Koteā ko Tin Shui Wai
Tin Shui Wai has been home to many families since the estates opened, and a map of the town captures daily routes, schools and walks by the wetlands. It also appeals to birdwatchers and admirers of planned urban design.
