Te mapa
Kanbalu lies in Myanmar's Sagaing Region, in the dry plains north of Shwebo. From above it is a linear town, with its streets stretched along the transport corridor that runs north toward Kachin State. A compact centre of blocks gives way to village-style lanes, then to a broad patchwork of rice fields, small reservoirs and irrigation channels that fills the surrounding plain.
The town is the centre of Kanbalu Township and sits on the railway between Mandalay and Myitkyina, one of the country's long north–south lines. The countryside around it is flat and agricultural, so the map is shaped almost entirely by straight transport lines, scattered villages and the fine geometry of paddy fields. It is a clear, uncomplicated picture of how the town is laid out.
A Kanbalu map poster has an appealing directness: the railway and the road side by side, the town strung out along them, and wide open ground on either side. It is the kind of map that shows at a glance how a place connects to the rest of the country, and its strong lines translate well into black and white.
The Mandalay–Myitkyina line runs through town in one long straight stroke, with streets and buildings lined up beside it. This gives the map a strong vertical axis.
Rather than growing around a round centre, Kanbalu stretches along its main routes. The built-up area reads as a narrow band crossing the frame.
Fields, small reservoirs and irrigation ditches surround the town on every side. They form a quiet grid of plots that fills the outer parts of the poster.

Koteā ko Kanbalu
Kanbalu rarely appears on travel posters, which is exactly why a map of it means so much to the people who come from there. It records the streets, the railway and the fields around them, and makes a thoughtful gift for family living abroad.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to edit, perhaps with a family name or a meaningful year. Choose Classic, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital files come in six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
