Te mapa
Kanegusuku lies in the southern part of Okinawa Island, the most densely built corner of the prefecture, close to Naha. From above, the town shows the island's typical pattern: narrow lanes that follow the rolling hills, small blocks of closely packed houses, and a few wider roads that carry traffic between neighbouring communities.
Southern Okinawa is hilly rather than flat, so the street network rarely forms a clean grid. Roads bend around slopes, stop at ridges and gather into small clusters where the ground levels out. Patches of green mark steeper ground, shrines, cemeteries and farm plots that remain between the built-up areas.
A Kanegusuku map poster captures that intricate, finely drawn texture. With so many small streets in a compact area, the map is rich in detail even at small scales, and the contrast between the dense lanes and the open spaces gives the design a gentle rhythm. It is a subtle portrait of everyday island life.

Small plots and tightly packed homes create a dense, even texture of lines, which looks especially fine on larger print sizes where every lane can be seen.
Steep slopes, sacred sites and small fields leave pockets of open space inside the built area, breaking up the pattern and giving the composition room to breathe.
