Te mapa
Kassari lies off the southeastern coast of Hiiumaa in shallow water, connected to the larger island by causeways. On the map, its outline is low and irregular, with reed-lined bays and small islets around the edges. A few roads cross it through juniper meadows and woodland. Its most striking feature is at the southern tip, where a narrow spit of gravel runs out into the sea for several kilometres.
This spit, Sääretirp, is only a few metres wide in places and is lined with juniper bushes. People walk its full length to where it disappears into the water. Kassari is the largest of the islets around Hiiumaa, and its small chapel with a thatched roof is one of the island's best-known buildings.
A Kassari map poster is a study in low-lying coast. Water and land blur at the edges, and the causeway lines tie the island to its neighbour. The spit reaches into open water like a single stroke of a pen. There are no dense streets, only a quiet pattern of lanes and farmsteads, which is what gives the island its calm character.
A long, narrow gravel spit extends from the southern end of the island into the sea. It is Kassari's signature line, fine and sharp against the open water.
Straight embankments cross the shallow water to the main island. Their clean lines contrast with the irregular, reed-edged shore around them.
Small islets, inlets and reedbeds surround the coast. They give the outline a soft, fragmented edge typical of the western Estonian shallows.

Koteā ko Kassari
Kassari is a summer island for many Estonians and a quiet discovery for visitors to Hiiumaa. Its spit makes a natural focal point on the page, and the restrained palette of Sand or Paper suits its meadow and shoreline landscape.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a family farm name or the year of a walk out along the spit, then choose one of five styles. Download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
