Te mapa
Kétou lies on the plateau of south-eastern Benin, close to the border with Nigeria, and is the seat of Ketu, one of the oldest Yoruba kingdoms. From above the town has a layered, irregular form. Older quarters are built closely around the historic centre and palace area, and newer neighbourhoods spread outward along the main roads into the surrounding farmland.
Ketu's history goes back many centuries, and its kings still hold a traditional role today. The old town was once protected by defensive earthworks, and a historic gate, Akaba Idena, is still one of its best-known sites. These traces of the earlier settlement help explain why the centre of the map is denser and more intricate than its edges.
A Kétou map poster shows a place where history can still be read in the street pattern. Paths wind between compounds in the old quarters, while wider roads cut straighter lines through later districts and out toward villages and the border. The plateau's farmland and woodland frame this long-established settlement.
The oldest quarters form a dense, irregular cluster around the royal and historic core. On the poster this is the most intricate area of line work.
The historic gate of the old town is still a landmark in Kétou. It marks the edge of the earlier fortified settlement that the modern town grew from.
Main roads lead out across open farmland toward Pobè, Cotonou and the Nigerian border. Their long lines frame the composition.

Koteā ko Kétou
Kétou carries deep meaning for people of Yoruba heritage on both sides of the border, and for families rooted in the town itself. A map of its streets honours that history quietly, without ornament.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and there are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9, or order a printed poster.
