Te mapa
Kisai was a town in northeastern Saitama Prefecture and in 2010 became part of the city of Kazo. It lies in the flat, low country of the northern Kanto Plain, close to the Tone River, one of Japan's largest rivers, which marks the prefectural border in this area. From above, it is a patchwork of rice paddies, farm villages and small residential clusters.
The land is almost perfectly flat, so the map's structure comes from water and roads. Irrigation channels divide the fields into regular rectangles, and the broad embankments along the Tone River run in long, gentle curves. Residential streets are concentrated along the main roads, with farms and fields filling the space between them.
A Kisai map poster shows a quieter side of the Tokyo region, an hour or so from the city, where the metropolitan sprawl gives way to agricultural land. In black and white, the fine grid of fields and channels becomes an almost abstract pattern, set against the wide, flowing line of the river to the north.
The great river and its embankments form the northern edge of the area. On the poster they appear as a broad, curving band, the dominant feature of the landscape.
Rice fields divided by irrigation channels cover much of the land. From above they create a fine, regular grid that looks very graphic in the Classic and Blueprint styles.
Houses and farms gather in small groups along the roads, rather than in a single dense centre. They give the map a scattered, rural rhythm.

Koteā ko Kisai
For people who grew up in Kisai, the name still means home, even after the merger with Kazo. A map keeps that place visible with its own title and coordinates, simply and without fuss.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be edited, for example to add the old town name and a family date. Choose from five styles, including Classic black and white, Noir, Blueprint, Paper and Sand.
