Te mapa
Ageo lies in central Saitama, north of Tokyo, and from above it is a finely grained mesh of residential streets typical of the Kanto plain. The JR Takasaki Line runs through the city from south to north, and the area around Ageo Station forms the densest part of the map, with shops and apartment blocks gathered near the tracks.
On the western side, the broad floodplain of the Arakawa river opens as a wide, pale band of fields, sports grounds and levees. Roads cross the city in several directions, and small parks and schools appear as open patches within the dense fabric of houses.
Ageo developed from Ageo-shuku, a post town on the Nakasendo, the historic route linking Edo and Kyoto through the mountains. Today it is largely a commuter city for the Tokyo region. An Ageo map poster shows the calm pattern of a Japanese suburb, framed by a railway and a great river.
The JR Takasaki Line cuts through the city north to south, and the streets around Ageo Station form the most compact area of the poster.
The western edge opens onto the wide Arakawa floodplain, with levees and open land forming a long band that contrasts with the dense residential grid.
The old Nakasendo route passed through Ageo as a post town, and its line is still part of the city's structure today, linking historic and modern neighbourhoods.

Koteā ko Ageo
Ageo is where many people raise families, commute from and return to each evening. A map poster turns an ordinary, beloved neighbourhood into something worth framing.
