Te mapa
Kurihama is a district of Yokosuka, near the southeastern tip of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa. Its map is shaped by a small bay facing the Uraga Channel, the entrance to Tokyo Bay. A curved beach lines the shore, the town fills the low ground behind it, and steep wooded hills rise around the edges.
In 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry came ashore at Kurihama to deliver a letter from the American president, a moment that began the end of Japan's long isolation. A monument and a small museum in Perry Park mark the site. Today, a car ferry runs from Kurihama across the channel to Kanaya on the Bōsō Peninsula.
A Kurihama map poster balances land and sea: the smooth arc of the bay, the ferry terminal and harbour, the rail terminus of the Keikyū line, and streets that bend where the hills close in. It is a coastal map with a clear historical anchor and a strong natural outline.
The shoreline curves in a gentle arc, with a beach and park at its centre. It provides the poster with a clean edge between the dense town and the open water.
On the edge of the bay, the terminal for the ferry to Kanaya adds piers and breakwaters, sharp man-made shapes against the soft coastline.
Inland, the town's grid gives way to roads that twist up into the wooded hills, following valleys and ridges typical of the Miura Peninsula.
