Te mapa
Le Moule sits on the eastern, Atlantic-facing coast of Grande-Terre, the flatter of Guadeloupe's two main islands. The town gathers around a bay protected in part by reefs, and on the map its streets form a compact core close to the water. Inland, the pattern opens quickly into the gently rolling plateau that was long given over to sugar cane.
The town was an important sugar port in the colonial era, and cane and rum remain part of its identity; the Damoiseau distillery operates just outside the centre. The Atlantic swell here draws surfers, and the coastline alternates between beaches and low rocky stretches. The archaeological museum at Morel displays finds from the island's pre-Columbian inhabitants.
A Le Moule map poster sets the tidy grid of the old port against the long, irregular Atlantic coastline. It is a map of the windward side of Guadeloupe, less visited than the Caribbean-facing coast, and it appeals to anyone who has spent time on this quieter shore.
The town's curved bay faces the open Atlantic, and its shoreline forms the defining edge of the map, with the compact old centre pressed close behind it.
Near the water, the streets fall into a regular pattern of short blocks, a reminder of the town's past as a planned colonial port for sugar exports.
Beyond the centre, roads spread across the low plateau of Grande-Terre, long devoted to sugar cane, leaving wide open spaces between scattered settlements.
