Te mapa
Linjiang lies in the mountainous northeast of Chongqing, a region of deep valleys and tightly folded ridges draining toward the Yangtze. The name means roughly facing the river, and the map explains it: the built-up area follows a watercourse, filling the flat ground along the banks and climbing only as far as the slopes allow. Everything else is hillside.
In this part of China, terrain decides where a town can grow. Roads wind with the contours instead of forming a grid, bridges appear wherever a crossing is needed, and new housing tends to line the valley floor in long bands. The result on paper is an elongated, organic shape very different from the square blocks of the plains.
A Linjiang map poster shows that shape plainly: the river running through, the dense strip of streets beside it and the curving roads that head off into the hills. Printed in black and white, the dense core against the thin rural roads around it makes the valley's shape obvious.
The town's densest streets sit along the river on the limited flat land, forming an elongated built-up area that follows the water rather than spreading evenly.
Roads leaving the town bend and switch back with the hills. On the map they look like loose curving threads, a clear sign of the mountainous ground.
Bridges link the two banks at intervals and show where the town has spread across the river, giving the map clear anchor points.

Koteā ko Linjiang
A map of Linjiang is a personal choice, usually made by someone with roots in the valley or a strong memory of the place. It records the shape of a hill town that few people outside the region have ever seen drawn.
