Te mapa
Linstead is an inland market town in the parish of St Catherine, in the hilly country north of Spanish Town. From above, it's a compact centre where several roads converge, surrounded by residential lanes that spread onto the nearby slopes. The surrounding land is green and folded, and the streets curve to follow it.
The town is widely known through "Linstead Market", one of Jamaica's best-loved folk songs, which tells of a market woman who can't sell her ackee. The market remains central to the town's identity. On the map, the point where the roads meet marks the commercial heart, with quieter residential streets branching out from it.
A Linstead map poster is a natural fit for Jamaicans at home and abroad who have ties to St Catherine, and for anyone who knows the song. It shows the real shape of the town, with its converging roads, hillside lanes and green surroundings, simply and clearly.
Several routes meet in the town centre. This gives the map a clear focal point where the market and main commercial streets are concentrated.
Away from the centre, residential streets climb and curve over the surrounding slopes. They form looping, irregular lines that are typical of inland Jamaica.
Wooded hills and farmland surround the town, leaving open space around the built-up area. This gives the composition room to breathe.
