Te mapa
Maibara is on the northeastern shore of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. The city stretches from the lakeshore to the mountains. On one side is the lake's broad surface, and on the other, the land rises steeply to Mount Ibuki, the highest peak in Shiga. Between them lies a narrow strip of plains, towns and rail lines.
Maibara Station is an important junction. Here the Tokaido Shinkansen meets conventional lines heading north toward the Hokuriku region along the Sea of Japan. The old Nakasendo road also crossed this area, and former post towns such as Samegai and Kashiwabara still have traditional streetscapes.
A Maibara map poster captures that transition between water and mountains. The smooth lakeshore, the tight bundle of railway lines at the station, and the ridges rising inland give the map a clear structure, open on one side and layered on the other.
Japan's largest lake fills the western part of the frame. Its long, gently curving shoreline gives the poster a calm, open edge.
Shinkansen and conventional lines meet and separate at Maibara Station. Their parallel tracks create one of the strongest graphic elements on the map.
Samegai and Kashiwabara were stops on the old Nakasendo road. Their narrow historic streets follow the valley inland toward the mountains.

Koteā ko Maibara
Many travellers pass through Maibara without leaving the train. People who have lived there, climbed Mount Ibuki or walked the Nakasendo know it better. A map poster reflects the whole place, from the lake to the mountains, not just the platform.
Title it in English or Japanese, add a subtitle and edit the coordinates. Then pick from five styles. Blueprint works well for the railway lines, and Paper suits the lake. Digital files cost $9, and printed posters are available in 30+ countries.
