Te mapa
Malinau is the seat of Malinau Regency in North Kalimantan, Indonesia, on the island of Borneo. The town lies on the Malinau River, and on a map the waterways are its defining features. Rivers curve through the area and meet near the town, and streets and neighbourhoods spread along their banks and onto the slightly higher ground around them.
Beyond the town, the land rises into hills covered by forest. Malinau Regency is very large and sparsely populated, and much of it reaches deep into the interior of Borneo, including the Kayan Mentarang National Park. That sense of wide, wooded country is felt even at the scale of the town map.
A Malinau map poster shows a compact town shaped by rivers and surrounded by green space. Main roads follow the water or climb gently into the hills, and the bends of the rivers give the design a flowing, natural structure.
Rivers wind through Malinau and meet near the town, giving the map broad curving lines around which the streets are organised.
The town's roads and neighbourhoods follow the banks and rise onto higher ground, creating a pattern that clearly follows the water.
Hills and forest surround the town. The regency extends into the Borneo interior, including the Kayan Mentarang National Park.
