Te mapa
Mamfe is the main town of the Manyu division in Cameroon's South-West Region, near the border with Nigeria. It stands on the Manyu River, known further downstream in Nigeria as the Cross River, and it has long been a crossing point between the two countries.
From above, the river is the defining feature: a broad, curving channel along the edge of town. The streets gather on the higher ground nearby in an irregular pattern, with main roads leading towards the border and inland towards the rest of the region. Around the town, the forest leaves large areas of open space on the map.
Mamfe's position on the river made it a trading post and a river port in earlier decades, when goods travelled by water to and from Nigeria. A Mamfe map poster traces that geography: the river, the roads to the border and the compact town between them.
The river curves past the town, a wide channel that dominates the composition and links Mamfe to the Cross River basin in Nigeria.
Roads lead west towards the Nigerian border and east into Cameroon, marking the town's long role as a crossing point.
Dense forest surrounds the settlement. On the print it becomes quiet open space around the concentrated street pattern.
