Te mapa
Maţāy is a town in Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt, in the narrow strip of the Nile Valley where cultivation is squeezed between the river and the desert. From above, everything runs north to south: the Nile, the main railway line through the valley, the parallel roads and the canals feeding the fields.
The town itself is dense and compact, with narrow lanes packed around a few main streets, and the built-up edge meets farmland abruptly. Irrigation channels break the fields into long thin plots, and small villages sit along them like beads. It is a pattern repeated along much of the valley, but each town has its own outline.
Few would describe Maţāy as a destination, and that is part of the appeal of mapping it. A Maţāy map poster records an ordinary Upper Egyptian town as it truly is, a tight cluster of streets held in the valley's long green corridor, with the river never far away and the desert just beyond.
River, railway, roads and canals all run roughly north to south, giving the map a strong directional grain that frames the compact town.
The town's core is made of short, closely packed lanes and small blocks, which print as a dark, finely textured mass against the surrounding fields.
Irrigation canals divide the farmland into narrow strips, and villages line up along them, creating a calm rhythm around the edges of the poster.

For families from Minya living in Cairo, the Gulf or abroad, a map of the home town carries real weight. Personalise it with a title, a family name or date in the subtitle, and coordinates that mark exactly where home is.
Classic black & white suits the valley's clean lines, Sand and Paper add warmth, and Noir or Blueprint give a more graphic finish. The $9 digital files include six sizes in 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF, with no watermark.
