Te mapa
Matsudo sits on the east bank of the Edo River, directly across from Tokyo's Katsushika ward. The river forms the city's western edge, with long embankments and wide riverside green space, and on a map it clearly separates the two prefectures. East of the river, dense residential streets spread over low terraces, divided by rail lines heading into the capital.
The centre grew as a post town on the old road out of Edo, and rail lines now meet at Matsudo Station, which serves as the city's main hub. Around it, the street pattern is tightly packed and irregular. Further out, planned housing estates, parks and small patches of farmland create a looser texture closer to the edges of the city.
Matsudo is home to Tojo-tei, the late Edo-period residence of the Tokugawa Akitake family, and its garden. Nearby, the Yagiri ferry across the Edo River is one of the few traditional river crossings still operating in the Tokyo area. A Matsudo map poster shows a commuter city with a clear past, bounded by its river.

Rail lines converge at Matsudo Station, with the densest streets gathered around it, clearly showing how the city is organised.
Bridges and the historic Yagiri ferry link the city across the river, reminders of centuries of movement between Edo and the land to the east.
