Te mapa
Misato lies in the far southeast of Saitama Prefecture, on the edge of Tokyo and next to Chiba. The land is low and flat, and two rivers define its sides. The Edo River runs along the eastern border, and the Naka River runs close to the west. On the map, the city fills the land between them.
This area was mostly rice fields for a long time, and in places the old field patterns still show in how the streets are laid out. Since the late twentieth century, housing estates, new rail stations and commercial districts have filled much of the space. Newer areas show more regular, planned streets than the older, winding village roads.
Expressways cross the city and meet at a large junction. Railways such as the Musashino Line and the Tsukuba Express add long, straight lines. A Misato, Saitama map poster shows how the two rivers, these transport lines and the dense housing fit together on one quiet stretch of the Kantō plain.
The broad Edo River forms Misato's eastern edge. Its wide riverbed and flood banks give the map a strong boundary between Saitama and Chiba.
Large highways meet in the city, and their curving ramps make a distinctive shape. At print scale the interchange stands out clearly among the smaller streets.
Around newer stations, planned neighbourhoods with regular streets contrast with older lanes that follow the lines of former rice fields.
