Te mapa
Menasha sits where Lake Winnebago drains into the Fox River, in the Fox Cities of northeast Wisconsin. Water shapes almost every edge of its map: the lake to the south, Little Lake Butte des Morts to the northwest, and the river channels that split around Doty Island, which Menasha shares with its twin city, Neenah.
The city grew in the nineteenth century around water power, and the paper industry has been central to its economy ever since. The Menasha Canal and lock carry boats between the lake and the river, and bridges cross the channels at several points, tying the downtown blocks to the residential grids that spread along the shorelines.
A Menasha map poster is an image built largely from water and bridges, with the city's streets fitting into the spaces between lake and river. It suits anyone who has spent summers on the lake, worked at the mills or crossed the Trestle Trail on foot, and it pairs naturally with a map of neighbouring Neenah.
An island between two branches of the Fox River, divided between Menasha and Neenah, it forms a distinctive rounded shape at the southern edge of the city.
The canal and its lock connect Lake Winnebago with the Fox River, cutting a straight channel through the city that stands out clearly on the map.
Residential grids extend toward Lake Winnebago and Little Lake Butte des Morts, ending in shorelines that give the composition wide, open areas of water.
