Mérida was founded in 25 BC as Augusta Emerita, a colony for veterans of Augustus's legions, and the Roman plan still shapes the map. The historic centre sits on the north bank of the Guadiana, a broad river scattered with islands and reed beds. The old streets are tight and slightly irregular, with a few squares opening between them, while later districts spread outward in looser blocks.
The river is the main feature of any view from above. The Roman bridge, one of the longest surviving from antiquity, crosses it in a long, low line, and modern bridges, including Santiago Calatrava's Lusitania Bridge, sit alongside. The smaller Albarregas stream joins from the north, passing another Roman bridge and the remains of an aqueduct on its way.
A Mérida map poster places the capital of Extremadura within its setting: the river, the ring of roads around the centre and the grid of newer neighbourhoods on the south bank. The archaeological ensemble, including the Roman theatre and amphitheatre, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it sits right inside the street pattern rather than apart from it.

The wide river divides into channels around low islands and parkland, giving the centre of the map a soft, broken band of water.
North of the river, the historic centre keeps a dense, compact street pattern, with the theatre and amphitheatre marked as open spaces among the blocks.

Koteā ko Mérida
Mérida suits people who care about how cities are layered over time. The river and the bridges tell the story on their own, and a black-and-white map lets that structure speak without extra detail. It works well for a study, a hallway or as a travel keepsake.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a date or a family name, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
