Te mapa
Muang Phônsavan is the provincial capital of Xiangkhoang, in the uplands of northern Laos. The old provincial centre was largely destroyed during the heavy bombing of the Indochina war, and the present town was built afterwards. That history shows in its layout. A long main road forms the spine, with a fairly regular network of streets branching off it across the plateau.
The town is the base for visiting the Plain of Jars, a group of sites scattered with hundreds of large stone jars made in the Iron Age. Their purpose is still debated. Unexploded ordnance remains a problem across the province, and information centres in town explain the ongoing clearance work.
A Muang Phônsavan map poster shows a young town in an old landscape. The planned streets and the airport runway sit on open, gently rolling ground, while the grassy hills around them are left almost blank. It is a spare composition that says a lot about where this place has come from.
A single long road runs through the centre, with shops and side streets attached to it, forming the backbone of the whole town plan.
The straight runway sits just outside the built-up area, a sharp geometric line against the soft contours of the plateau.
Grassland and low hills surround the town on all sides, leaving generous white space that gives the streets room to breathe.

Koteā ko Muang Phônsavan
Travellers who went to see the Plain of Jars often want a record of the town they used as a base. People from Xiangkhoang may see in it a place that rebuilt itself after war.
Change the title and subtitle to mark a trip or a date, and keep or edit the coordinates line. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper suits the calm upland setting.
