Te mapa
Munsan is a town within Paju, in the far north of Gyeonggi Province, close to where the Imjin River flows towards its meeting with the Han. The land is low and open, with rice fields, river flats and gentle hills. On a map the town appears as a compact grid of streets gathered around the railway station, with apartment blocks and farmland spreading out around it.
The town has long been linked with the Gyeongui Line, the railway that once ran north to Sinuiju. Munsan Station was for many years close to the end of the line on the southern side. Nearby is Imjingak, a park and memorial on the riverbank near the Demilitarized Zone, visited by many people each year.
A Munsan map poster shows a quiet town in a significant place. The station, the main roads and the river curve form the essential structure, with neat blocks of housing and open fields around them. In black and white the map is simple and calm, and for many viewers it carries a meaning that goes well beyond its streets.
The railway station anchors the town centre, and the Gyeongui Line cuts a straight path through the map from the south.
The wide river flows to the north of town, and its broad curves and floodplain frame the upper part of the poster.
Rice paddies and farmland alternate with apartment complexes, creating a contrast between large regular fields and dense residential blocks.
