Te mapa
Muravlenko lies in the Yamalo-Nenets region of northern Western Siberia, in a landscape of taiga, bogs and small lakes that stretches in every direction. The town was founded in the 1980s to serve the oil fields of the region and was named after Viktor Muravlenko, a leading figure in the development of the Siberian oil industry. It was built quickly and according to plan.
From above, the town is a compact block of residential districts arranged along a few main streets, with multistorey buildings grouped around large courtyards. Industrial areas and access roads extend outward toward the oil fields. Around the settlement, the ground is scattered with lakes and marshland, which appear on a map as countless irregular shapes.
A Muravlenko map poster shows a clear contrast. The town is orderly and geometric, while the land around it is fragmented into water and bog. In black and white, the planned districts stand out like an island in the northern wilderness, a picture of how people built a working town in a demanding environment.

The surrounding taiga is dotted with small lakes and wetlands, which fill the edges of the map with irregular, scattered shapes.
Straight roads and pipelines leave the town toward the oil fields, long lines cutting across the forest and marsh that tie Muravlenko to its purpose.

Koteā ko Muravlenko
Many people spent part of their lives in Muravlenko, working in the oil fields or growing up in the north, and later moved away. This map keeps that chapter visible, in a style that is minimal and clear.
