Te mapa
Negombo lies on Sri Lanka's west coast, a short distance north of Colombo and close to Bandaranaike International Airport. The town sits on a narrow band of land. The Indian Ocean beach runs along one side, and the wide Negombo Lagoon opens to the south and east. On a map, water frames almost every direction.
The old centre is packed close to the lagoon mouth, where fishing boats come in and a Dutch-era gateway still stands. From there, the Hamilton Canal, dug in the colonial period, runs south across the marshy flats toward Colombo in a long straight line. North of the centre, hotels and houses spread along a road that runs parallel to the beach.
A Negombo map poster brings the lagoon, the canal and the coastline into one frame. The town's many churches have earned it the nickname Little Rome, and its lagoon fishery, including the traditional outrigger boats, is one of the best known on the island. Many travellers also know it as the first or last stop of a trip.

This colonial waterway runs south from Negombo toward Colombo in a strikingly straight line across the wetland, easy to follow on the map.
North of the old town, a long road runs parallel to the sand, with a narrow strip of streets packed between it and the shore.

Many people's Sri Lankan journey starts or ends in Negombo, and for families here the lagoon and the fish market are part of daily life. This map remembers either experience with clarity and calm.
