Te mapa
Nieuwegein was created in 1971 by merging the old villages of Jutphaas and Vreeswijk, and the map still shows both layers. Winding cul-de-sacs and looping estates from the new-town era fill the space between older ribbons of settlement, which follow the waterways that first shaped this part of the province of Utrecht.
Water sets the edges. The Lek runs along the southern side, and the Merwedekanaal and the wider Amsterdam-Rhine Canal cut north to south through and beside the town. Near Vreeswijk, locks and harbour basins break the river edge into small, precise shapes, and they read clearly even at poster scale.
A Nieuwegein map poster catches a very Dutch kind of order: estates planned around green corridors, water managed down to the last sluice, and a fast tram line tying the town to Utrecht just to the north. In black and white, the canals and the river form a frame, and the planned neighbourhoods fill it in fine detail.
The Lek forms the southern boundary, a broad band that the town's streets end against. In print, its dark curve anchors the bottom of the composition.
The Merwedekanaal and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal cross the area, and their locks near Vreeswijk add small rectangular basins and junctions where the canals meet the river.
Residential districts from the 1970s and 1980s are laid out as curving loops and closed courts, a pattern that looks nothing like the straight lines of the older villages.

Koteā ko Nieuwegein
People who grew up in one of Nieuwegein's estates, or who ride the tram into Utrecht every day, often want a map that shows where the canals, the river and their own street meet. It works as a quiet, graphic piece for a hallway or a study.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a street name and the year you moved in. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download HD files for $9 or order a matte print.
