Te mapa
Nishinomiya lies on the coastal strip between Osaka and Kobe in Hyōgo Prefecture. From above, it looks like a series of horizontal bands. Reclaimed land and harbours line Osaka Bay in the south. Above them come dense residential streets and railway lines. Then the land climbs into the wooded foothills of the Rokko range, and the city continues over the mountains into a separate northern district.
Rivers run straight down this slope. The Mukogawa marks the eastern border with Amagasaki, and the smaller Shukugawa, known for the cherry trees along its banks, flows through the western neighbourhoods. Several railway lines run parallel east to west between the rivers, and stations sit at regular intervals like beads on a string.
A Nishinomiya map poster includes Hanshin Koshien Stadium, home of Japan's national high school baseball tournaments, whose oval sits near the eastern edge. Nishinomiya Shrine is the head shrine of Ebisu, and at New Year it holds a run to its main hall to decide the year's lucky man. The street pattern loosens as it climbs into the hills.

Several rail lines run east to west across the city between the bay and the hills and form strong horizontal strokes on the map.
North of the dense lowland, the streets curve into wooded slopes, and the city continues across the mountains into a separate district.
