Te mapa
Novocheboksarsk lies on the right bank of the Volga, just downstream of Cheboksary, capital of the Chuvash Republic. It was founded in 1960 as a new town for a large chemical plant, and the map still shows that planning. Wide avenues divide the city into regular microdistricts, each a block of apartment buildings arranged around courtyards, schools and green space.
The Cheboksary hydroelectric dam crosses the Volga at the edge of town, a straight line holding back the broad reservoir upstream. Industrial zones spread out as large shapes of their own, set apart from the residential areas by green belts. Forest and the wide river valley surround the whole city.
A Novocheboksarsk map poster reads almost like a planning diagram: straight axes, regular blocks and a clear separation of housing and industry, all set beside the water. It is an unusually clean example of a Soviet new town, which gives the print a calm, orderly look that differs from older Volga cities.
The dam crosses the Volga with a straight, deliberate line, separating the wide reservoir from the river below, a clear landmark on the map.
Residential areas form regular blocks around courtyards, arranged along wide avenues, a textbook Soviet planning pattern.
Belts of trees separate housing from the industrial zone, appearing as calm open strips between the two parts of the city.
