Te mapa
Novyy Turtkul’ is in the southern part of Karakalpakstan, the autonomous republic in western Uzbekistan, near the Amu Darya. The land here is a desert oasis. Rivers and canals make farming possible, and beyond the irrigated zone the country turns dry. On a map the town appears as a compact grid ringed by a network of canals and field boundaries.
Turtkul has a notable past. In the early Soviet period it served as the capital of Karakalpakstan, until the capital moved to Nukus in the 1930s. The Amu Darya is known for shifting its banks, and erosion affected the older settlement, which is part of why a newer town developed. The name reflects that renewal.
A Novyy Turtkul’ map poster shows a settlement defined by water in a dry land. Straight streets form the core, and irrigation canals branch outward through the fields. At the edges the fine detail gives way to emptier ground. The contrast between order and openness gives the print a spare, quiet strength.
The town's core is laid out in regular blocks. They appear as an even, compact pattern at the centre of the print, typical of a planned Central Asian town.
Canals fed by the Amu Darya run through the surrounding farmland. They draw long, slightly curving lines that shape the whole oasis around the town.
Beyond the irrigated fields the map becomes sparse as desert land begins, framing the town and its farmland as a distinct island of settlement.
