Nowrangapur, also spelled Nabarangpur, is the headquarters of a largely rural district in southern Odisha, close to the border with Chhattisgarh. The town itself is modest in size, and the population figure often quoted for it covers the wider district. On the map the town appears as a compact cluster of streets where local roads meet, set in open, gently rolling country.
The district lies on the upland of the Eastern Ghats, and the Indravati River flows through the region.
