Te mapa
Vizianagaram was the seat of a princely family whose fort still stands near the heart of the town, and much of the older street pattern grew up around it. On the map the fort appears as a compact enclosure among dense lanes and bazaars, with the clock tower and main market streets close by. Newer districts spread outward over the gently rolling plain.
Water is a quiet but important part of the plan. Large tanks, built to store rainwater for fields and households, sit within and around the town, and their broad irregular shapes stand out clearly among the streets. Railway lines and the highway toward Visakhapatnam cross the landscape in long straight strokes, linking the town with the coast.
Every year the town fills for the Sirimanu festival of the goddess Pydithalli Ammavaru, when a priest is carried on a tall wooden pole through the streets near the fort. Vizianagaram is also known for its traditions of music and learning. A Vizianagaram map poster gathers the fort, the tanks and the temple routes into one quiet, readable image.

Large water tanks lie among the neighbourhoods. Their open surfaces and irregular edges leave broad pale spaces within the grid of streets.
The streets between the Pydithalli Ammavaru temple and the fort are the setting for the Sirimanu procession, one of the best-known festivals in north coastal Andhra.
