Te mapa
Nueva Gerona is the capital of the Isla de la Juventud, the large island off Cuba's southwest coast once known as the Isla de Pinos. The town lies on the north side of the island beside the Las Casas River, which winds to the sea nearby, and its centre is laid out in a clear, regular grid of blocks around its main square.
Low hills rise close to town, among them the Sierra de Las Casas, where marble has long been quarried. On a map they appear as open space pressing against the western side of the grid, while the river forms a curving line on the other side. The result is a town neatly held between hill and water.
East of town stands the Presidio Modelo, the prison where Fidel Castro was held after the 1953 Moncada attack, its circular cell blocks now preserved as a museum. A Nueva Gerona map poster gives the island capital the attention it deserves, drawing the grid, the river and the hills in one frame.
The town centre follows a regular pattern of square blocks, typical of Cuban towns and especially crisp here, where the grid is compact and complete.
The river curves past the eastern side of town toward the sea, its bends and banks adding a natural counterpoint to the straight streets.
East of town, the former prison's circular buildings form one of the most unusual shapes on the island, now preserved as a monument and museum.

Koteā ko Nueva Gerona
Nueva Gerona suits islanders living elsewhere in Cuba or abroad, divers who came for the reefs off the island, and readers drawn to its history. Its tidy grid makes a composed, strongly graphic poster for any room.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with Isla de Pinos as a nod to the old name, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download covers six sizes, and printed posters ship from partners in 30+ countries.
