Te mapa
Nungwi sits at the very northern end of Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar archipelago. From above, the land narrows to a blunt point, with the Indian Ocean on three sides. The village fills that point with a loose web of sandy tracks and footpaths rather than a formal grid, and the lines thin out quickly toward the reef-fringed shore.
The place grew up as a fishing village and is known for building dhows, the wooden sailing boats of the Swahili coast, which are still shaped by hand on the beach. Because the beach faces west, it is also known for sunsets over open water. Hotels now line parts of the shore, but the lanes behind them keep the shape of the older village.
A Nungwi map poster has very few straight lines. It shows an irregular settlement pressed against the coast, a shoreline that curves steadily around the tip, and a wide stretch of empty sea. In black and white the ocean becomes open paper and the village a fine cluster of marks, so the whole composition leans toward the edge of the island.
The coast turns sharply at the northern point of Unguja, so the land narrows to a rounded end with water on the west, north and east sides.
There is no planned grid here. Short, winding tracks connect houses, boatyards and beach, giving the village an organic, hand-drawn texture on the map.
Most of the frame is Indian Ocean. That wide blank area gives the poster a quiet, spacious balance and draws attention to the thin line of the coast.

Koteā ko Nungwi
For many people Nungwi is the end point of a trip to Zanzibar, a honeymoon or a first look at the Indian Ocean. A map of the tip of the island keeps that memory in a simple, graphic form rather than in another photograph.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised with names or a date, and the map comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand suits the coast well, and Noir makes the shoreline stand out.
