Nushki is the main town of Nushki District in Balochistan, in western Pakistan, not far from the border with Afghanistan. The surrounding country is arid: wide gravel plains and sandy stretches, with bare ranges on the horizon. The town serves as a market and administrative centre for a large, thinly populated area.
From above, Nushki is compact and clearly bounded. A core of streets and walled compounds gathers around the main roads, and the land beyond turns abruptly to open desert and scattered cultivated plots. Where water is available, orchards and fields form small green patches. On a black-and-white map they appear as a lighter texture next to the dense town.
