Te mapa
Oleshky lies on the left bank of the lower Dnipro, across the river from Kherson in southern Ukraine. The map is dominated by water. The Konka and other branches of the Dnipro's delta wind through reed beds and floodplain islands just north of the town, and a regular street grid spreads over higher ground to the south.
Beyond the town lie the Oleshky Sands, one of the largest areas of sand in Europe, partly planted with pine forest. In the early eighteenth century, Zaporozhian Cossacks established the Oleshky Sich here. The town, known for decades as Tsiurupynsk, returned to its historic name in 2016. It was badly flooded in 2023 when the Kakhovka dam upstream was destroyed.
An Oleshky map poster keeps this landscape in one frame. In black and white, the river channels trace fine curving lines at the top, and the street grid holds the centre. Towards the edge, the land gives way to open sand and forest, the setting that shaped the town's past and present.
Branching river channels, islands and reed marshes spread north of the town. Their curving lines create the most intricate section of the map, facing Kherson across the water.
The town's main residential area is laid out as a regular grid of straight streets. It stands out as a clear, ordered block between the river and the sands.
South and east of town lies a large sandy expanse with planted pine forest. On the map it appears as open, sparsely marked ground around the settlement.
