Te mapa
The Chaffey brothers founded Ontario, California, in the 1880s as a planned model colony, and its map still shows that intention. A regular grid of streets covers the flat valley floor. Running north through it is Euclid Avenue, a wide boulevard with a planted central median that heads straight toward the San Gabriel Mountains.
Ontario International Airport takes up a large block on the eastern side of the city, and its long runways are the most prominent straight lines on the map. Interstate 10 and State Route 60 cut across from east to west. Rail yards, warehouses and distribution centres fill much of the southern and eastern parts of the city.
The historic downtown lies along Euclid near the railway, surrounded by older neighbourhoods of smaller blocks. To the south, newer planned communities have been built on former farmland and dairy land. An Ontario map poster captures the logic of a Southern California grid city: orderly and expansive, framed by freeways and anchored by its central avenue.
The city's central boulevard runs north for miles with a wide planted median. This straight line divides the grid and points toward the mountains.
The runways of Ontario International Airport cut long parallel bars across the eastern part of the city, one of the strongest shapes on the poster.
Interstate 10, Interstate 15 and State Route 60 cross the city, and their interchanges add bold curves to an otherwise rectilinear map.
