Te mapa
Ordos is a prefecture-level city in Inner Mongolia, spread across the Ordos Plateau, which the Yellow River encloses on three sides in a vast loop. Coal and other natural resources drove rapid growth in the early 2000s, and the urban map reflects that: wide roads, large blocks and new districts laid out quickly on open steppe and semi-desert.
The older centre, Dongsheng, has a denser and more irregular street network on hilly ground. To the south, Kangbashi was built as a new administrative district with a strong central axis, generous plazas and a river dammed into a long lake. For some years it was described as a ghost town, but it has gradually filled with residents.
The surrounding region is also home to the Genghis Khan Mausoleum, a memorial site in Ejin Horo Banner that draws visitors from across China and beyond. An Ordos map poster shows a city defined by planning at a very large scale, where the geometry of new avenues meets the open land around them.
A long ceremonial axis runs through Kangbashi toward its central square, framed by symmetric blocks, a rare example of a whole district planned in one stroke.
The older urban centre sits on uneven ground, with streets that bend and branch more freely than in the newer districts to the south.
Wide highways and arterial roads run out into steppe and semi-desert, so the city's outline is sharply defined against the empty land around it.

Koteā ko Ordos
Ordos makes an unusual poster precisely because it is so geometric. Its avenues and plazas read almost like an architectural drawing, which suits modern interiors and anyone interested in urban planning or the landscapes of Inner Mongolia.
