Oregon, Ohio lies on the eastern side of the Maumee River mouth, across from Toledo. It covers a large area that is part suburb, part farmland and part industrial waterfront. On a map, long straight roads following the old survey lines divide the land into wide rectangles.
To the north the city meets Maumee Bay and the open water of Lake Erie. Here the grid gives way to marshland, inlets and an irregular shoreline. Maumee Bay State Park sits on this coast. Closer to the river, refineries and port facilities form large, dense blocks.
