Te mapa
Parakou is the largest city in northern Benin and the main centre of the Borgou department. It sits on a gently rolling plateau of savanna, well inland from the Atlantic coast. On the map, the city appears as a broad spread of streets around a central area, with main roads leading out in several directions toward other towns in Benin and neighbouring countries.
The city has long been an important crossroads between the coast and the interior, and it is the northern terminus of the railway line from Cotonou. The Bariba people have historically been prominent in the region. From above, Parakou's layout reflects its role as a meeting point, with routes converging on the centre and newer neighbourhoods growing along them.
A Parakou map poster shows a city defined by roads and open land. In black and white, the main routes stand out as long lines crossing the frame, while the central grid and the looser outer neighbourhoods create layers of detail. It is a calm, open composition for anyone connected to northern Benin or to the long journey between the coast and the interior.
Several major roads meet at Parakou, crossing the map as long lines that link the city with the coast, the north and neighbouring countries.
The line from Cotonou ends here, bringing a straight rail corridor into the city and marking its role as a transport hub.
Around the city, open land and scattered settlements create a soft, pale frame for the denser streets of the centre.
