Te mapa
Paraty lies on the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, between the mountains of the Serra do Mar and a wide bay dotted with islands. Its historic centre is a compact grid of streets laid out in the colonial era, set right at the water's edge with a river on one side and the bay in front.
The town was an important port for the gold trade in the eighteenth century, and its streets were designed so that high tides could wash through them. In 2019, Paraty and Ilha Grande were inscribed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their cultural and natural value. The town also hosts FLIP, a well-known international literary festival.
A Paraty map poster captures the tight colonial grid, the curving shoreline and the islands scattered across the bay, with forested mountains rising behind. It is a striking piece for anyone who has walked its stone streets, sailed among the islands or attended the festival.
The historic centre is a compact grid of stone streets, set close to the water, and it forms the densest and most detailed part of the poster.
The bay in front of the town is scattered with islands and inlets, turning the coastline into an intricate, flowing line across the composition.
Steep, forested mountains of the Serra do Mar rise behind Paraty, giving the map a clear frame of open space inland.
