Te mapa
Perevalsk lies in the Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine, close to Alchevsk, on the hilly ground of the Donets Ridge. Its name comes from the word pereval, a mountain pass, reflecting its position on the uplands. On the map the town is irregular, with streets following valleys and slopes, industrial sites scattered across the area and settlements linked by roads winding between the hills.
The town developed around coal mining, like much of the Donbas, and the landscape still shows it: mine complexes, rail sidings and the conical spoil heaps known locally as terrikony. Since 2014 the town has been under Russian occupation, and many former residents now live elsewhere in Ukraine or abroad.
A Perevalsk map poster presents the town as a web of streets shaped by terrain and industry. The curving roads, the scattered industrial areas and the surrounding open ground form an uneven but coherent picture. For people who grew up here, it is a way to keep the place in view as it was known and lived in, drawn plainly and without commentary.
The town sits on the uplands of the Donets Ridge, and its streets bend along slopes and valleys instead of forming a regular grid.
Former and working coal sites, rail sidings and spoil heaps appear across the area, giving the map irregular shapes between residential streets.
Perevalsk is connected by roads to neighbouring mining towns and villages, so the wider map shows a chain of built-up areas across the hills.

Many people from Perevalsk now live far from it, and a map of the town is one way to hold on to home. It shows familiar streets and neighbourhoods as a personal record rather than a political one.
