Te mapa
Peterborough lies in central Ontario on the Otonabee River, which flows south through the city toward Rice Lake. From above, the river runs as a clear north–south line, widening into Little Lake just south of downtown, while the Trent–Severn Waterway follows a canal on the eastern side.
The Peterborough Lift Lock, a hydraulic boat lift on the canal completed in 1904, remains one of the city's defining structures and was among the highest of its kind when built. Upstream, Trent University occupies a campus on both banks of the river, and the downtown forms a regular grid of streets between the water and the western neighbourhoods.
A Peterborough map poster brings together river, canal and grid in a balanced composition. In black and white, Little Lake and the curving Otonabee stand out against the city's orderly street pattern, reflecting its role as a gateway to the Kawartha Lakes.
The hydraulic lift lock on the Trent–Severn Waterway raises and lowers boats in large chambers, a landmark on the canal east of downtown.
The Otonabee widens into a small lake south of downtown, a rounded open shape bordered by parkland and paths.
The university campus spans the river north of the city, its buildings and paths spread across both banks.
