Te mapa
Pétionville sits in the hills southeast of Port-au-Prince and rises from the edge of the capital's plain toward the mountains of the Massif de la Selle. It was founded in the 1830s and named after Alexandre Pétion, one of Haiti's founding leaders. It developed as a cooler, higher district above the city, and the map shows that height in the way streets bend and stack up the slopes.
The historic core is laid out as a small grid around Place Saint-Pierre and its church. This clear rectangular pattern stands out against the winding roads around it. Beyond the centre, residential areas follow ridges and ravines, and switchback routes head uphill toward Kenscoff and downhill toward the capital.
A Pétionville map poster is defined by this contrast between order and terrain. The central blocks are regular and tight, while the outskirts spread in branching lines that track the hillsides. In black and white the ravines appear as pale gaps between clusters of streets. That gives the print a layered, almost topographic feel even without contour lines.
The central square and the regular blocks around it are the commune's clearest geometric pattern, a neat rectangle set within otherwise irregular hillside streets.
A route climbs south into the mountains toward Kenscoff, winding through the slopes. On the map it reads as a single line threading upward from the town.
Steep gullies cut between neighbourhoods and leave narrow open strips on the poster. They explain why districts here grow in fingers rather than in solid blocks.
