Te mapa
Pitrufquén lies in the Araucanía region south of Temuco, on the north bank of the Toltén River. The town grew as a crossing point, and the map still reads that way: the river cuts a wide, curving line across the southern edge, with long bridges carrying road and rail over it, and a regular grid of streets rising gently from the water.
Route 5, the Chilean section of the Pan-American Highway, passes beside the town, and the old north–south railway runs close to the centre. Both lines tie Pitrufquén to Temuco to the north and to the lake districts to the south. The centre follows the familiar Chilean pattern of square blocks around a main plaza, simple and legible from above.
The name comes from Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people, and the surrounding countryside of farms, pasture and patches of native forest reflects the agricultural economy of the region. A Pitrufquén map poster captures this river town clearly, with its grid, its bridges and the open land that surrounds it on every side.
Road and rail bridges span the wide river at the town's southern edge, and the water, with its broad, curving channel, forms the strongest line on the map.
The central streets form a clear chequerboard of square blocks around the main plaza, a layout that makes the town easy to read even at small print sizes.
Route 5 and the southern railway run as parallel north–south lines through the area, linking the town to Temuco and the regions further south.

Koteā ko Pitrufquén
Pitrufquén is a place many people pass through on the way south, but for those who live here it is the town on the Toltén. A map makes a fitting gift for family or friends, with the title, subtitle and coordinates all personalised to a street, a farm or a memorable date.
Blueprint and Noir give the river and bridges a strong presence, while Paper and Sand suit a more rustic room. Classic black and white works anywhere. Download the $9 HD files in six sizes, or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
