Te mapa
Pocito is a department just south of the city of San Juan, in the dry Cuyo region of western Argentina. Seen from above, it is almost pure geometry. Long straight roads cross at right angles and divide the land into rectangular plots. Small built-up centres appear at some crossroads, but the main pattern is farmland, drawn as if with a ruler.
That order comes from water. Very little rain falls here, so crops depend on irrigation channels fed by the San Juan River, and the fields line up along them. As across the rest of the province, vineyards make up a large part of the landscape, alongside olive groves and vegetable farms that supply the region.
To the west the ground rises toward the foothills of the Andes, a reminder of how close the mountains are. A Pocito map poster shows that tension neatly: a disciplined grid of roads and fields set against open, unfarmed land. It is the kind of view that explains how people have turned a desert into working farmland.
Straight rural roads meet at right angles and divide the department into regular blocks, one of the most orderly patterns you can put on a wall.
Channels fed by the San Juan River make farming possible in this dry climate, and the layout of roads and plots follows their logic.
San Juan is one of Argentina's main wine provinces, and Pocito's farmland is part of that landscape, with vineyards stretching between the roads.

Koteā ko Pocito
For families who work the land in Pocito, or who left for Buenos Aires or abroad, the grid of roads is a map of neighbours, harvests and familiar crossings. It also appeals to anyone who simply enjoys the calm order of a farming landscape.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a farm name or a year. Then choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Sand. HD files cost $9, and matte prints with an optional wooden frame are also available.
