Te mapa
Santiago fills a wide basin between the Andes to the east and the lower coastal range to the west. On a map, the centre is a clear colonial grid laid out from the Plaza de Armas after the city's founding by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541. The blocks continue with remarkable consistency for kilometres before loosening toward the eastern foothills.
The Mapocho River crosses the city from east to west in a narrow, canalised channel, with parkland along much of its banks. Two hills break the grid: the small, fortified Cerro Santa Lucía in the centre and the much larger Cerro San Cristóbal to the north-east, home to the Parque Metropolitano. The Alameda runs parallel to the river as the main axis.
The Américo Vespucio ring road encloses much of the metropolitan area in a broad loop. A Santiago map poster shows how orderly the city is at its heart and how it bends and thins where it meets the mountains, with hills and river adding shape to an otherwise regular plan.
Square blocks extend from the Plaza de Armas in a pattern set in the sixteenth century, giving the centre a crisp, even texture on paper.
The large hill park north-east of the centre appears as an open space in the street fabric, with winding paths where the grid cannot follow.
The river runs in a straight, channelled course from the Andes across the city, lined by parks and crossed by a steady rhythm of bridges.

Koteā ko Santiago
Santiago is a city many people associate with a particular view: the mountains at the end of the avenue on a clear winter day. A map poster cannot show the peaks, but the way the streets thin toward the east hints at them, which makes it a quietly evocative print.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a neighbourhood or year, and a coordinates line. The five styles run from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Digital files come in six print sizes at 300 DPI, or you can order a matte printed poster.
