Te mapa
Valle Nevado sits high in the Andes east of Santiago, close enough that the city is within a day trip yet far above it in altitude. The resort is compact, a tight group of hotels and apartment buildings set along a ridge at the head of a valley, with lift lines spreading out across the broad slopes around it. Most of the map is open mountain.
The approach from Santiago is one of the best-known mountain roads in Chile, climbing through dozens of tight hairpins past Farellones before continuing to the resort. On a Valle Nevado map poster these curves form a dense, looping line in the lower part of the sheet, while the resort itself appears as a small, sharply defined cluster near the top.
Valle Nevado opened in the late 1980s, built with French involvement in a style that recalls Alpine purpose-built resorts. It shares a linked ski area with the neighbouring resorts of La Parva and El Colorado, together one of the largest skiable areas in South America. The map shows how closely these centres sit to one another on the same high ground above the capital.
The access road climbs from the edge of Santiago in a long chain of hairpin bends. It is the most intricate element on the sheet, stacked tightly against the slope.
Hotels and apartments gather in a compact block along the ridge at the resort's heart. From above they read as one small, dense shape surrounded by open terrain.
La Parva and El Colorado lie nearby on the same mountain massif. Their buildings and lifts appear as separate clusters, showing how the three resorts share one high landscape.

Koteā ko Valle Nevado
For Santiago residents and visitors, Valle Nevado is the classic winter escape, close to the city but very different in feel. A print of the mountain makes a fitting reminder of the drive up, the view down and days spent on the high Andean slopes.
