Te mapa
Poço Fundo is a municipality in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in hilly country where coffee is one of the main crops. From above, the town is a compact urban area surrounded by a fine patchwork of farms, plantations and patches of woodland. Rural roads wind along ridges and stream valleys toward the neighbouring towns of the region.
The town centre follows the terrain rather than a grid. Streets run along the lower ground and bend up the slopes, and the blocks vary in shape and size. At poster scale this gives a gentle, organic outline, typical of the small towns of southern Minas that grew slowly around a church, a square and a road.
The name translates roughly as deep well. A Poço Fundo map poster keeps the view close on the town, showing its modest network of streets and the rural roads leaving it. It is a quiet portrait of a place whose rhythm is set by farming and the seasons of the coffee harvest.
Streets curve along the slopes and valleys instead of forming a grid, giving the town an irregular outline that follows the shape of the land.
A small core of denser blocks marks the historic centre, where most of the town's shops and public buildings are concentrated.
Paved and unpaved roads wind out across the hills to farms and nearby towns, drawing fine lines through the open countryside.
