Te mapa
Porto Grande is in the state of Amapá in Brazil's far north, less than a degree north of the equator. The town sits on the Araguari River, one of the main rivers of Amapá. On a map, a compact grid of streets lies beside the water, and roads lead out toward Macapá and the interior.
The surrounding region mixes Amazon forest, open savanna and river floodplains. The Araguari is wide and important for the area, both for transport and for fishing. Porto Grande grew as a crossing and service point along the road into the interior of the state, and the river and the road still shape its layout.
A Porto Grande map poster shows a small town on the edge of the Amazon. Straight streets meet a winding river, and the forest and savanna around them form a large open area. It is a spare, calm composition. It is a meaningful piece for people from Amapá and for anyone drawn to towns on the equator.
The Araguari River runs past the town in a broad curve. Its banks and islands are the strongest natural lines on the map and anchor the whole composition.
The town's streets form a compact, mostly regular grid next to the river, with a few main roads leading out toward the rest of the state.
Porto Grande lies just north of the equator. Its coordinates line, printed on the poster, reads less than one degree of latitude from zero.

For people from Porto Grande and Amapá, the river and the town beside it are the centre of family memories. A map poster keeps that place present, whether it hangs in Macapá, elsewhere in Brazil or abroad.
