Te mapa
Raduzhnyy lies in the forests east of Vladimir, and it is one of the most distinctive town plans in Russia. It was founded in the early 1970s to house the staff of a research facility, and was designed as a whole from the start. The residential area forms a ring: the districts are laid out in a circle, with a road running around them and forest all around.
The town's name means rainbow, echoing the name of the research centre it was built for. Its districts are numbered rather than named, as often happened in Soviet planned towns. The research complex lies away from the housing, among the trees, and roads lead through the forest to it and to the city of Vladimir.
A Raduzhnyy map poster makes the most of this unusual geometry. The round residential core stands out clearly in the dense forest around it, with its ring road and radial streets. It is one of the most graphic compositions possible for a small town, and in black and white it reads almost like a diagram.
The residential districts are arranged in a ring. This gives the town an almost perfectly round outline, which is instantly recognisable on the map.
A road follows the circle around the housing. It gives the town a firm, clean border that the forest surrounds.
Dense woodland covers the land around the town and the research facility. It leaves the round core isolated in a wide expanse of green.

Koteā ko Raduzhnyy
Raduzhnyy attracts people who grew up in its numbered districts, scientists who worked at the research centre, and anyone interested in planned Soviet towns. Its round shape makes it one of the most striking maps on a wall.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, including in Cyrillic, with a district number or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files are $9, and there is a free 900 px preview.
