Te mapa
Riverside sits on the eastern edge of Dayton, in the southwest of Ohio. From above it reads as a mix of curving residential streets and older straight blocks. Arterial roads run out from the city toward the suburbs further east. Its northern side follows the Mad River corridor, and to the east the ground opens into the wide, orderly layout of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The contrast is what makes the map worth a look. Small lots and cul-de-sacs sit right up against the huge rectangles of airfield pavement and base infrastructure. Riverside grew up alongside the base, and the two plans meet along a line you can trace on paper. A Riverside map poster brings out that meeting of domestic scale and aviation scale.
The Dayton area is closely tied to the story of flight, since the Wright brothers did much of their work nearby. On the poster the neighbourhoods, river bends and highway ramps become plain black lines. That makes the place easy to recognise for anyone who has lived there, worked on the base or driven through it every day.
The Mad River curves along the northern side of the city, with a band of green banks and floodplain that breaks up the residential street pattern.
On the eastern side the fine suburban grain gives way to the long runways and large blocks of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, one of the sharpest contrasts on the sheet.
Winding residential streets, cul-de-sacs and short connecting roads fill the middle of the map. They make a soft, irregular texture between the straighter arterial routes.

Koteā ko Riverside
Many people hang this map because of a posting at the base, a first house or a family that has stayed in the area for generations. It captures a real place without turning it into a postcard.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line to a family name, a move-in date or a base assignment. Then choose one of the five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
